When we were all small, our parents put food on our lips and taught us to eat, over time we took the cutlery and repeated what others taught us with love. The same is repeated in almost all species of the animal kingdom, the mother feeds her young and takes care of them until they can feed themselves, then they grow, reproduce and repeat the same cycle.
Human beings as heterotrophic living beings need organic matter and products derived from plants and some animals to be healthy and grow. However, how much food we all need to be healthy is almost an enigma, because in an unusual way there have been people who have survived weeks and months drinking a little water and without tasting any food, and have survived to tell their story.
All of the above has made many reflect on how much and what kind of food some of us really need to survive weeks and months in space or in special survival conditions. Caloric restrictions, or days of abstinence, are an example of resistance by some people who do not stop researching their means, trying to find a viable way to live more healthy and healthy years.
